When Circumstances Turn Against You

When Circumstances Turn Against You
When circumstances start to turn against you, how do you know whether it's the Lord withholding His support—because you're on the wrong path—or the enemy resisting you—because you're on the right one?

You can't determine that by looking at the circumstances alone.
Circumstances only alert us to a potential disruption in spiritual harmony—they are not the final authority.
The true "yes" or "no" is discerned within our spirit, where the Holy Spirit serves as our divine umpire.

All too often, we grow numb to the conflict between daily circumstances and the will of God for our lives. We become desensitized to the subtle ways that wrongs pile up around us.
We reason, in our intellect, that our situation can't change—especially when other people are involved.
And it's true: we can't control others. God has given everyone free will.

But we must not allow ourselves to be swept away by the tide of circumstances, accepting them as fixed or inevitable.
We might tell ourselves, "I can't change this," but the truth is—we can.

Psalm 23 declares, "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want."
Psalm 91 promises, "No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling."

These verses do not say:
"The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall suffer lack."
Or,
"Evil will befall one in a thousand—and I must be the one."

God's Word is our plumb line.
It is the truth by which we measure every part of our lives.
Everything else must submit to it.
Scripture reveals how we are meant to live—anything less is not our portion.
