Keep your Hat On

Leviticus 10:6-7

Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, “Do not let your hair become unkempt and do not tear your clothes, or you will die and the Lord will be angry with the whole community. But your relatives, all the Israelites, may mourn for those the Lord has destroyed by fire. Do not leave the entrance to the tent of meeting or you will die, because the Lord’s anointing oil is on you.” So
they did as Moses said.

~~
The priest could not mourn the deaths of his two sons. He had to comb his hair, be presentable, and not mourn. If he did this while under the anointing, it would kill the priest and harm the people.

The priest, under the anointing, must be in full agreement with God's judgement, not sympathize with the people. The priest can not yield the straight and narrow way of the laws of God. The people could mourn, but not the priest.

It was as if God was saying, "This is my way. I had rules, they broke them, I judged them, and I did good, and I won't have my priests out in the congregation saying, "Oh you poor souls, that was awful." It made God look bad. It made God separate and apart to be a hard case.

The priest, under the anointing of God could not be like the people of the congregation. The people were allowed to mourn. Ever hear the saying," Others can, you can't?" The priests couldn't mourn, the people could. Why? Because of the anointing.

The priests were also shut in. They had to remain in the tent.  This means they had to stay away from the people while anointed. This is why it seems as if the presence of God lifts when people start gathering around. Dont mix the anointing with the spirit of the people. This was serious. If Aaron left the tent, he would have died. The priests faced God and worshipped His holiness and righteousness for the quick justice He had brought down on Aaron's sons. The priests Honor the righteousness of God while the people wept.

How would you feel if you were shouting hallelujah while others were crying? And we wonder why we are called peculiar people.

So in summary, Aaron was not allowed to have a saddness about the loss of his sons. He couldn't mourn, and he had to stay inside, because of the anointing. Failure to obey would result in his death and the destruction of the people.

When we pray to be anointed, we must understand the Seriousness of our request. Like Jesus said, "Consider the cost."
